About Wrigley Field
Wrigley Field is the home of the Chicago Cubs baseball team, first opened in 1914 under the name Weeghman Park. The Cubs moved into the stadium in 1916 making it the second-oldest baseball field after Fenway Park in Boston. Wrigley Field is among the most recognizable baseball parks in the US, mainly because of its hand-turned scoreboard, its beautifully adorned outfield wall and the weird wind patterns, courtesy of the nearby Lake Michigan.
Because the field is located in a primarily residential area, there are no parking lots nearby and tenants in nearby buildings have installed bleachers on the rooftops for perfect views of the games. That created a long-lasting feud between the Cubs and the rooftop owners, leading to several legal battles. Nowadays, rooftop owners have to share 17 percent of their earnings with the Cubs.
Wrigley Field Bag Policy
Since 2016, security screening through metal detectors has been implemented at all Wrigley Field gates. This enhanced security measure is part of a wider initiative to increase safety across all MLB stadiums in the US.
The following items are prohibited at Wrigley Field during game days:
- Bags larger than 16x16x8 inches (slightly bigger than a tote bag)
- Luggage of any kind
- Containers (cans, aerosol spray, glass, hard-sided coolers, thermoses or flasks)
- Illegal drugs
- Laser pointers,
- Non-factory sealed plastic bottles,
- Portable stadium seats
Although we doubt you will try to enter Wrigley Field with an inflatable boat or pool, carrying large bags and/or at least one of the above-mentioned objects is a possibility. Wrigley Field bag policy officially discourages spectators from bringing in their stuff, to ensure queues are proceeding faster. Purses and small handbags are permitted, although security personnel are authorized to search them.
